This is the third year that my friends, Mike and Marilyn, have spent the winter months in Cuenca, Ecuador. They keep inviting me to come and visit, but, until now, I haven’t been able to accept their invitation. Mike has been itching to get out of Cuenca and explore some of the other South American countries; I have wanted to travel to South America for years, so I selflessly offer to accompany Mike on a backpacking tour. Both of us did this kind of traveling in our youths, but that was quite a long time ago. Mike suggested this story of our trip should be entitled: Dos Viejos Con Mochilas (Two Old Guys With Backpacks).
